Death is not a tragedy
it's an adventure.
It may look frightening,
but it’s not.
Birth and death are two experiences
that give us a tangible sense of connection
with God.
Peace and freedom.
The mysteries that await us
are barely imaginable.

ineke disveld – about me
"It's a blessing that my left hand
still follows all the lines I make in my mind
and as a best friend
is leading me in my process"
I was born in South Africa and raised in the Netherlands. Partly because of this, and thanks to my inquisitive nature and creative spirit, I developed a broad interest, including psychology and art. Ultimately, I gravitated towards art, in its broadest sense, at first. Later, my focus shifted primarily to painting.
After years of painting, both on my own initiative and commissioned, I decided to stop in the late 1990s. During fairs and exhibitions, I noticed that surrealism, my painting style at the time, was only interesting to a small audience, and somehow I missed a certain depth that might have more meaning to a wider audience, yet was still intertwined with spirituality.
I had no idea how to do this, so I decided to delve into psychology. In the meantime, I had already obtained course books and decided to register. Just as I was about to pick up the phone, however, it rang... I had been asked for a commission. Was this an omen of a different direction?

ineke disveld – my artwork
One evening in mid-2002, I saw ten paintings pass before my mind's eye. These paintings were black and white, with the seemingly most insignificant details accentuated by color, which made me realize that life revolves around the little things we often overlook. The lines were graphic and moving, as if emerging from the paintings and at the same time sinking into the depths. I perceived these mathematical lines as a bridge to the unseen. By looking 'differently', I saw depth.
I immediately felt the urge to do something with this inspiration, because this was exactly what I had been looking for: hidden spirituality in powerful images. Although mathematics was too complex for me, I decided try to get 3D onto 2D anyway. After weeks of study and practice, I finally understood the technique and created my first stereogram on paper.
The next step was to create powerful, figurative representations that reflect the timelessness of the thought system. I developed my own technique for connecting basic, central, and main lines without losing the stereograms, exactly as I had seen them. Everything is composed of lines, squares, and triangles. Using these elementary components, combined with stereograms and occasionally optical illusions, I attempted to manipulate the interpretation: you either see it or you don't.
While painting, I occasionally received clues from ‘the other side’, sometimes releasing a great deal of energy. After all, the inspiration for the paintings didn't come from within myself, but from the unseen. Ultimately, I try to bridge the gap between thinking and seeing by looking consciously. My paintings have now traveled to various countries, and they all convey the same message: you see what you know; what you don't know is what you see. And I guess that's true in real life as well, isn’t it?
